Some Yarn Porn

January 22, 2007 at 7:02 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | 4 Comments

Decided to add some yarn porn tonight.  I really do need to focus a little bit on my knitting but I am so loving stitching on Mermaids of the Deep Blue.

Here’s a sock that I’m working on.  Yarn is Cherry Tree Hill and the pattern is the Basketweave Pattern from Stitches of Violet.  Only my fourth pair of socks but I’m definitely hooked.  I could probably do socks and shawls forever!

Next is a Forest Canopy Shawl that I’m working on.   My very first successful piece of lace knitting.  I handspun the yarn for this myself on my Ashford Joy so I’ll be verrrrry proud when this is finished. I plyed the yarn with 2 plies of merino and 1 ply of silk, then dyed it. The silk took up the dye differently than the merino creating this wonderful tweedy effect. And the yarn itself is oooohhhh so soft and squishy.

Close up of the stitches. Obviously this will look mucho better when blocked and I can’t wait to finish it and wear it!!

  1. Good Lord! You spin too? That yarn is gorgeous. Is there anything you DON’T do? We need to talk soap. I didn’t know you COULD

  2. sorry… that post got away from me. I was saying… I didn’t know that you COULD skip the gel phase. I thought that is what made it all happen. But then, I never really took the time to understand the chemistry of all this. I thought you had to cover it all up and tuck it in and sing it bedtime songs. The thought of putting it out on the deck astounds me.

  3. That handspun merino/silk is beautiful! It’s going to look fantastic blocked!

  4. Great sock pattern and yarn combination.

The socks are going to be beautiful.
